15 Things to Pack in your Wedding Day Emergency Bag

My grandpa always told us: if you have it, you won’t need it, and if you don’t have it, you will need it. While I used to think this was silly advice, the older I’ve gotten, the truer I’ve found it to be!

That’s why you should absolutely pack an emergency bag to keep handy during your wedding day. These are some items that I think you should include, based on my own experience at wedding days (and what I actually keep with me in my camera bag!)

  1. Chafing sticks

We’re just gonna go ahead and dive right in and get a little personal. For my thick-thighed friends out there, this stuff will SAVE YOU. There is nothing worse than having thigh chafing, and it is so hard to enjoy yourself with that discomfort! And you absolutely do not want this on your wedding day! This is the stuff that I personally use, and have found works well on long hikes and long wedding days. Also, it doesn’t have to be just for your thighs!

  2. Painkillers, TUMS, and any other over-the-counter meds you might take.

Headache? Heartburn? Upset stomach? Any of these can happen to you or your wedding party during the course of the wedding day. Be prepared with your preferred brand of painkillers, TUMS, etc. to make sure you stay comfortable!

  3. WATER! And a reusable water bottle

For real. Please do your best to stay hydrated on your wedding day, especially in Colorado at high elevation! Nothing is worse than passing out on your wedding day. More than likely you’ll be having drinks throughout the day, so try to stick to the one glass of water for every drink rule to save yourself the headache.

Having a reusable water helps make sure you aren’t relying on plastic water bottles throughout the day.

  4. Snacks!

Yes. Even if your venue provides snacks. Even if you don’t think you’ll get hungry because you’re too nervous. Pack some of your favorites just in case you start to get a little bit hangry. I promise you won’t regret having some snacks on hand (or candy bars, I don’t judge).

  5. Sewing Kit

Bring a sewing kit that matches all of the outfits being worn during the day by your wedding party. I actually once had to stitch a sash back onto a bridesmaid dress during the wedding day. (By the way, I can sew, so just another perk of having me around on the big day!) You never know when you might need to make a super quick repair to prevent a wardrobe malfunction!

  6. First Aid Kit

I hope we never have to use it during the wedding day, but better safe than sorry. Don’t worry about anything too crazy, but having bandaids handy for minor cuts is never a bad thing!

Along with the first aid kit, make sure to include some moleskin. We’ve all had the horrible experience of blisters, and again, your wedding day is not the ideal time for one! While you probably should make an effort to break in your shoes, having moleskin will save you or your wedding party on the day of the wedding.

  7. Feminine Products

Ladies, this one kind of goes without explanation. Most of you probably already have these handy, but it’s always worth a reminder!

  8. Lint Roller!

Especially if your fur babies will be at the wedding (or your human hair sheds a bunch). Having a lint roller for last minute touch-ups makes you guys look polished, and saves me the hassle of photoshopping out white husky hairs from a black tux!

  9. Phone Chargers

You might not be on your phone much on the wedding day, but you can bet your wedding party will be! Make sure you have a phone charger handy so that phones are charged in case emergencies happen or you need to get a hold of somebody. And of course for selfies!

  10. Tissues

Tears may or may not be shed on your wedding day, so keeping tissues handy is never a bad idea. It also helps if you have allergies and are getting married in a field of grass!

  11. Chap-stick and lotion

I somehow always need chap-stick and lotion, and never have it with me when I need it the most. Colorado is SO dry, so these two are pretty much essentials! Also, moisturized lips and skin photograph so much better than cracked lips and dry knuckles.

  12. Tide To-Go Pen

Juuuuust in case stains happen! These are easy to keep handy and work well.

  13. Super glue

I’m gonna be honest, this should probably just be in your every-day life emergency kit. Super glue is so helpful to have around! Did a jewel fall off of your bedazzled headband? Super glue. Did someone cut themselves in a weird spot that a bandaid won’t cover? Super glue.

  14. Deodorant and any body mist/perfume/cologne

Again. Probably something most of you keep on hand already, but it doesn’t hurt to get a reminder to pack some extra deodorant and any of your smell-good products. Stay fresh all day!

  15. Rain Poncho or small umbrella

This last one is not usually featured on these lists, but if you’re getting married in Colorado, I would recommend you have one with you always. The weather here is SO unpredictable, and especially in the mountains, it can change on a dime. You can get really cheap rain ponchos that fold down small just in case you need one for the in-between moments of the day.

Being prepared for all sorts of situations is never a bad idea, especially on your wedding day! If you’re still feeling nervous or unprepared, don’t worry. I’ve got your back, and I will do what I can to help make sure that your day goes off without a hitch!
