5 Tips to Have a Relaxing, Low Key Wedding Week

Whether you plan on having an intimate elopement, a huge wedding where EVERYONE you know is there, or something in between, planning it can be stressful! I’ve known this fact for a while as a wedding photographer, but after having my own wedding recently the stress hits a LOT closer to home!! So much of the stress continues to build and ramp up until the moment your day arrives, and it’s possible it can bring your experience down as a whole. Knowing this, I decided it’d be helpful to go through 5 tips I’ve learned either firsthand or from my couples on how to have a relaxing and low key wedding week!

1. Take Some Time Off

If you are able to take some extra time off from work the week of your wedding I highly recommend it! The day to day tasks of work are stressful enough as it is, add in the pressure and anticipation of your wedding day on the horizon and you’ll probably be losing sleep over how stressed you are!! I understand not everyone is in a position where they can take a full week off of work, but even taking off the day or two before your wedding is going to make a world of difference!!

2. Set Some Boundaries

Your wedding is a HUGE cause for celebration (as it should be!), but sometimes your friends and family can be a little over the top with their involvement! So much so that they in turn cause more stress for you which is the last thing you need. Set some boundaries between those that you love so that you and your partner can actually spend some quality time together. This is true for both the week leading up to your wedding as well as the days immediately after it. Setting some actual boundaries allows you to be intentional with the time you spend with your partner, and makes the time you do spend with friends and family that much more special!!

3. Schedule a Massage

I am a HUGE fan and proponent of massages! I personally have one done once a month, and it literally feels as though my stress melts away each time. Massages are a great self love treat, and if there’s ANY time that you should definitely be treating yo self with some love it’s the week of your wedding!! Depending on how stressful the overall process of planning your wedding has been, you may not even realize just how tense you actually are! A massage will allow you to relax, center yourself, and get you to a place where you can enjoy the lead up to your wedding day!

4. Schedule Something Fun with Your Partner!

One of the best ways to ensure that you have a relaxing, low key week leading up to your wedding is to do something fun with your partner! The key here is to schedule and do something that you both actually want to do. As an example, my husband Nick and I love to try and learn new skills together, so prior to our wedding we scheduled a half day fishing trip for ourselves! This made a huge difference for our mental states and allowed us to really enjoy some time together where we could shut our wedding brains off and just BE with one another! Who knows, you might even start a whole new tradition for yourselves to celebrate every anniversary!!

5. Delegate!

If you do just ONE of these tasks to help make your wedding week more relaxing and low key, THIS IS THE ONE! You likely have a few friends and family asking if they can help you with your wedding, say yes!! Delegating your wedding tasks is crucial for your sanity, and your loved ones want to do anything they can to help you. This applies for both pre-wedding and post wedding activities as well. If you hired a wedding planner or coordinator, which I strongly encourage you to do, even better. Being able to delegate your wedding tasks to someone else allows you to truly relax leading up to your wedding as you can count on those tasks being taken care of without any more effort on your part!

Your wedding is going to be one of THE best days of your lives, and a big part of making sure you enjoy it to the fullest is creating a low key week leading up to the big day!
